Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 9x13 baking dish or baking sheet
  • 1 clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap
  • 1 oven

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  • Add warm milk, melted butter, and the egg to the dry ingredients. Mix together with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough begins to form.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough back into the mixing bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls.
  • Place the dough balls into a greased 9x13 baking dish or on a lined baking sheet. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  • While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and brush the tops with additional melted butter if desired. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, you can add garlic powder or herbs into the dough.
These rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to regain softness if they become stale.
