Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 kitchen towel
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 plastic wrap or clean kitchen towel

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk About 110°F/43°C.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, mix until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased mixing bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 10 minutes.
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and split it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a small ball.
  • Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and brush the tops with additional melted butter if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

These rolls can be stored in an airtight container for a few days at room temperature.
You can also add herbs or garlic powder to the dough for extra flavor.
For a sweeter roll, consider sprinkling cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
