1 large skillet or wok
1 cutting board
1 measuring spoons
1 measuring cup
1 spatula
- 1 lb flank steak, sliced thin against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- ½ cup green onions, chopped Reserve some for garnish.
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (additional)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper To taste.
In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Mix well, ensuring the beef is fully coated. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring until browned, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic, ginger, and chopped green onions. Stir-fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the brown sugar, water, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
Return the beef to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and serve hot over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with reserved chopped green onions.
For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or sliced chili peppers to the sauce.
If you prefer a thicker sauce, let it simmer for a few extra minutes before adding the beef back in.
This dish pairs well with steamed broccoli or snap peas for added veggies.
