Instructions
Instructions
Activate yeast with 1 teaspoon sugar and ¼ cup lukewarm milk and rest for 5 min.
Add flour, sugar, salt, remaining milk, egg, vanilla and butter. Knead for 5-7 min until smooth.
Transfer to oiled bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
Prepare apple filling by cooking diced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and water for 15 min. Stir in cornstarch and cool.
Prepare cream cheese filling by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, egg and vanilla. Transfer to piping bag.
Transfer dough to floured surface, divide into 12 pieces and shape into buns.
Using a floured glass, press down center of each to create wells. Let rest 15-20 min covered.
Pipe cream cheese into centers, top with apple filling.
Brush edges with beaten egg.
Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20 minutes or until golden.
Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar and serve.
Notes
These buns taste best warm. Store leftovers refrigerated and reheat slightly before serving.
