  • 1 Glass trifle dish or large clear bowl
  • 1 Sharp knife for cutting cake cubes
  • 1 Spatula or spoon for layering whipped cream

  • 1 chocolate cake already baked and cooled
  • 1 can cherry pie filling 21 ounces
  • 2 cups whipped cream store bought or homemade
  • ½ cup chocolate shavings for topping
  • ¼ cup cherry liqueur optional

  • Cut the chocolate cake into bite-sized cubes.
  • Layer half the cake cubes in a trifle dish.
  • Spoon on half the cherry pie filling, spreading gently.
  • Drizzle half the cherry liqueur over the cherry layer (if using).
  • Spread 1 cup of whipped cream over the cherry layer.
  • Repeat layers with the remaining cake, filling, liqueur, and whipped cream.
  • Top with chocolate shavings.
  • Chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Let trifle chill fully to help layers settle and flavor combine. Optional substitutions include frozen cherries, premade cake, or mascarpone in place of cream.
