Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
In a mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a seasoning rub.
Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over all the thighs.
Place the seasoned chicken thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush a generous amount of barbecue sauce on each chicken thigh, making sure to coat them well. Reserve some sauce for basting later.
Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Baste the chicken with the reserved barbecue sauce.
Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the skin is caramelized.
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve with your favorite sides.
