Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 aluminum foil
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 meat thermometer
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 2.5 lbs bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand or homemade
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • optional fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a seasoning rub.
  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over all the thighs.
  • Place the seasoned chicken thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush a generous amount of barbecue sauce on each chicken thigh, making sure to coat them well. Reserve some sauce for basting later.
  • Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Baste the chicken with the reserved barbecue sauce.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the skin is caramelized.
  • Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve with your favorite sides.
