Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 cutting board

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples preferably Granny Smith or Fuji
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (½ stick)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • a pinch salt

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced apples to the skillet and stir to coat them in the butter.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and a pinch of salt over the apples. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  • Cook the apples for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and the mixture has thickened into a syrupy glaze.
  • Once cooked to your desired tenderness, remove the skillet from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These fried apples can be served warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with biscuits, pancakes, or vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of your apples. If you prefer a lower sugar content, you can reduce the brown sugar by a few tablespoons.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave before serving again.
