Equipment

  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 shallow dish
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 frying pan
  • 1 meat thermometer
  • 1 paper towels
  • 1 tongs
  • 1 wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts 6 ounces each
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • as needed cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 pieces burger buns
  • as needed leaves leafy lettuce for topping
  • as needed slices tomato for topping
  • as needed slices pickles for topping
  • as needed tablespoons mayonnaise or sauce of choice

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce; add chicken breasts and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best results).
  • In a shallow dish, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, pressing gently to ensure the coating adheres.
  • Carefully place each coated chicken breast in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  • To assemble, spread mayonnaise or sauce on the bottom half of each burger bun. Place a piece of crispy chicken on top, followed by lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

You can customize the toppings based on your preference; avocado or cheese can also be added.
For extra crispiness, double-dip the chicken in buttermilk and flour before frying.
Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying; otherwise, the chicken will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
