Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line the cupcake tin with cupcake liners.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly into the cupcake liners, filling each about ⅔ full.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed. Add the milk and vanilla extract, and mix until light and fluffy.
Divide the frosting into bowls and add food coloring to achieve desired colors. Mix well.
Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them using piping bags or a spatula. Decorate with your choice of edible decorations.
Serve and enjoy your festive Easter cupcakes!
