Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 clean kitchen towel
  • 1 oven

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water About 110°F/43°C
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg Optional, for egg wash

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well to combine.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add 1 cup of warm water and ¼ cup of melted butter. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix until the dough starts to come together.
  • Once the dough forms a ball, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • After the dough has risen, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough to release air and transfer it back to the floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  • Place the shaped dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or greased lightly. Cover them with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • If desired, beat the egg in a small bowl and brush a little on top of each roll for a shiny finish.
  • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
  • Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in herbs or garlic powder into the dough.
These rolls are best served warm and can be enjoyed with butter, honey, or your favorite spread.
Leftover rolls can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days or frozen for longer storage.
