Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper optional
  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 cooking spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, green onions, egg, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the soy sauce and brown sugar, stirring to combine. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water until smooth. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the skillet with the sauce, gently coating them in the glaze. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the Mongolian meatballs hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired. Enjoy!
