Equipment

  • 2 round 8-inch cake pans
  • 1 mixing bowls
  • 1 electric mixer or whisk
  • 1 rubber spatula
  • 1 cooling rack
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 offset spatula
  • 1 cake stand or serving platter

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Room temperature.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 oz dark chocolate Chopped.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Room temperature.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk To reach desired consistency.

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line the bottom of the cake pans with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate ganache. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering. Pour it over the chopped chocolate in a mixing bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  • For the buttercream frosting, beat the room temperature butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Once the cakes are completely cool, level the tops if necessary. Place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top and allow it to set slightly.
  • Add the second layer of cake on top. Frost the entire cake with buttercream frosting. Decorate as desired with additional ganache or chocolate shavings.
  • Slice and serve your beautiful J'Adore Layer Cake. Enjoy!
