1 Large skillet or frying pan
1 Wooden spoon or spatula
1 Measuring cups and spoons
1 Knife and cutting board
- 12 ounces pasta (such as penne or fusilli)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- fresh basil, for garnish (optional)
- grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add the crushed tomatoes, vegetable broth, and pasta to the skillet. Stir to combine, bringing everything to a gentle simmer.
Cover the skillet and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente and has absorbed most of the liquid.
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce is heated through.
Remove from heat and let the pasta sit for a minute before serving. Garnish with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
You can use whole wheat pasta for a healthier option.
Add some cooked vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for extra nutrition and flavor.
If you prefer a bit of heat, consider adding red pepper flakes during cooking.
