  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 spatula
  • 4 serving plates

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • 4 hamburger buns Make sure the buns are toasted for an added crunch.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, until softened.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and beef broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
  • Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the sloppy joe mixture in the skillet. Cover and let it sit for a couple of minutes until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve the cheesy beef mixture on toasted hamburger buns.

Notes

Feel free to customize your sloppy joes with additional toppings such as sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
Make sure the buns are toasted for an added crunch and to prevent them from becoming soggy.
