- 12 ounces pasta your choice, such as penne or spaghetti
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust to taste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup vegetable broth or pasta water reserve from cooking
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. During the last 3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot.
Reserve ¼ cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta and broccoli in a colander.
