  • Unsalted butter melted and ready to go
  • Granulated sugar for sweetness
  • Pure vanilla extract to bring out the flavors
  • All-purpose flour used for crust and filling
  • Large apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • Ground cinnamon for warm spice
  • Nutmeg a pinch
  • Old-fashioned rolled oats for crunchy streusel
  • Light or dark brown sugar packed
  • Cold unsalted butter cubed for the topping
  • Salted caramel sauce homemade or store bought, for drizzling

  • Preheat oven to 300°F. Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  • Stir melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl. Mix in flour. Press into pan and bake 15 minutes.
  • While crust bakes, toss sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Make streusel by mixing flour, brown sugar, oats and cinnamon. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Layer apples over baked crust. Sprinkle with streusel. Bake 30–35 minutes until golden.
  • Cool completely. Drizzle caramel on top. Slice into squares and serve or store.

Notes

Use a mandoline slicer to quickly prep evenly sliced apples. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
