Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch baking pan
  • multiple mixing bowls
  • 1 electric mixer (optional)
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 rubber spatula
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer on medium speed.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract until combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Spread half of the cookie dough into the prepared pan in an even layer.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce over the dough, spreading evenly but leaving some space around the edges.
  • Crumble the remaining cookie dough over the caramel layer, covering it as much as possible.
  • Sprinkle sea salt over the top for added flavor.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, cut into bars and serve.

Notes

For a stronger caramel flavor, you can add a bit more caramel sauce.
Ensure to let the bars cool completely before cutting to maintain their shape.
These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerated for longer freshness.
