- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 cups broccoli florets Approximately 1 lb or 450g.
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Optional.
- Salt and pepper To taste.
- Cooked rice or noodles For serving (optional).
Start by preparing all your ingredients. Peel and devein the shrimp, and chop the broccoli into florets. Mince the garlic and ginger.
In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. This will be your garlic sauce.
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil and the broccoli florets. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Pour the garlic sauce over the shrimp and broccoli, stirring to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the shrimp and broccoli stir fry hot over cooked rice or noodles if desired.
You can customize this stir fry by adding other vegetables such as bell peppers, snap peas, or carrots.
For a healthier version, consider using low-sodium soy sauce and reducing the amount of oil used.
