  • 2 cups macaroni uncooked (about ½ lb)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese shredded, sharp

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, cook for 1-2 minutes while stirring constantly.
  • Add milk and heavy cream slowly while whisking constantly. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  • Add mustard powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Reduce heat to low.
  • Gradually add shredded cheddar while stirring continuously until melted and smooth.
  • Return cooked macaroni to the sauce. Stir gently to combine and coat evenly.
  • Adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of milk or cream to revive the sauce.
