Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowls
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 electric mixer (or whisk)
  • 1 rubber spatula
  • 2 baking sheets
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 cookie scoop or tablespoon
  • 1 cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips optional for 'winter' effect
  • ½ cup sprinkles optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips using a rubber spatula. If desired, add in the white chocolate chips for a festive look.
  • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • If using sprinkles, gently press some onto the top of each cookie dough ball before baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look soft but will firm up as they cool.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • For an extra festive touch, try dusting the cookies with powdered sugar before serving.
